Medborgarskapsprovet Results 24 October 2026 October 24, 2026 By Swedish Civics · 6 min read

# About 80% Passed Sweden's First Citizenship Test: The Pass Mark Was 28 of 40

Ten weeks after Sweden's first*medborgarskapsprov*, the results are in. On **22 October 2026**, UHR announced that 875 people took the civics test on 15 August, that **about 80 percent passed**, and that the pass mark was set at **28 of 40 points**. Test-takers can now see their result in their UHR account, and the results have gone to Migrationsverket. This article sets out what UHR has published, what the numbers mean, how the threshold was set, and what applies if you did not pass. Everything is quoted from UHR's announcement and its question-and-answer pages. This is general information, not legal advice.

## What UHR announced

UHR's[news item of 22 October 2026](https://www.uhr.se/om-uhr/nyheter/2026-nyheter/resultaten-fran-medborgarskapsprovet-i-samhallskunskap-klara/) is four sentences long:

> *"Resultaten från det första medborgarskapsprovet i samhällskunskap är nu klara. Totalt genomförde 875 personer provet när det hölls den 15 augusti. Cirka 80 procent av provtagarna fick ett godkänt resultat. Gränsen fastställdes till 28 av 40 poäng."*

The results of the first citizenship test in civics are now ready. In total, 875 people took the test when it was held on 15 August. About 80 percent of the test-takers passed. The threshold was set at 28 of 40 points.

Results came earlier than the end-of-October window UHR had given. When we reported on[UHR's final report](/en/blog/language-test-autumn-2029-uhr-recommendation/) on 5 October, its question-and-answer page said the result would be published *"i slutet av oktober"*, and the report expected the result to be set in the second half of October. It arrived on 22 October.

## The numbers in plain terms

UHR gives the pass rate as*"cirka 80 procent"*, about 80 percent, and does not publish an exact head count. The figure of roughly 700 is our own arithmetic and is only as precise as UHR's rounded percentage.

## Why the score was out of 40, not 60

Test-takers answered 60 questions, but their result is out of 40. UHR's[question-and-answer page](https://www.uhr.se/medborgarskapsprovet/fragor-och-svar/) explains why:

> *"Provet i augusti var ett så kallat utprövningsprov. Det innebär att ett överskott av uppgifter prövades ut med syfte att välja ut 40 välfungerande uppgifter, innehållsligt såväl som mätmässigt."*

The August test was a so-called*utprövningsprov*, a trial test. A surplus of questions was tried out in order to select 40 questions that worked well, both in content and as measurement. In other words, 20 of the 60 questions were being tested rather than testing you, and only the 40 that held up counted toward the score. We explained this in August, when UHR said the pass mark [would be set after the test](/en/blog/utprovningsprov-pass-mark-set-afterwards-2026/). That is now what has happened.

## Who set the pass mark, and how

The threshold was proposed by the University of Gothenburg, which is responsible for the civics part of the test, and approved by UHR. From the announcement:

> *"Gränsen för godkänt resultat har föreslagits av Göteborgs universitet, som ansvarar för delprovet i samhällskunskap. Analysen bygger på väl etablerade och beprövade vetenskapliga metoder och har genomförts av sakkunniga inom provkonstruktion och bedömning. UHR har därefter godkänt förslaget till gräns för godkänt."*

The analysis is based on well-established, proven scientific methods and was carried out by experts in test construction and assessment. UHR then approved the proposed pass mark. The question-and-answer page adds that the proposal came from an expert group, that both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to analyse the test and its results, and that*"UHR har som beslutande myndighet fastställt gränsen för godkänt"*: UHR, as the deciding authority, set the threshold.

UHR has not said whether 28 of 40 will also be the pass mark for future tests. The time allowed and number of questions for the next test have not been announced either, so treat 28 of 40 as the result for 15 August 2026, not as a rule.

## How to see your own result

Log in to the account you created when you registered. UHR's[results page](https://www.uhr.se/medborgarskapsprovet/resultat/) says:

> *"Nu kan du som skrev medborgarskapsprovet 15 augusti 2026 se ditt resultat när du loggar in på det konto du skapade vid din anmälan."*

What you will and will not see:

- **You see your score.** UHR says you can see *"hur många rätt du hade av totala antal frågor"*, how many you got right out of the total. The pass mark is also shown in your result.
- **You do not see the questions.** You cannot see the test itself or which questions you got right or wrong, *"eftersom provet omfattas av provsekretess"*, because the test is covered by test confidentiality.
- **You do not need to send anything.** *"Ditt resultat skickas automatiskt till Migrationsverket för behandling av din ansökan om medborgarskap."* Your result is sent to Migrationsverket automatically.
- **"Ej resultat".** If your account shows *Ej resultat* (no result) and you have questions about it, UHR asks you to contact its support.

## If you did not pass

About one in five test-takers did not reach 28 points. UHR's answer to what happens next:

> *"Om du får ett underkänt resultat kan du få möjlighet att visa kunskaper på nytt. Kontakta Migrationsverket för att få information om vad som gäller för dig."*

If you fail, you*may* get the opportunity to show your knowledge again. The wording is "may", not "will", and the decision sits with Migrationsverket, so contact them about your own case. Two routes are worth knowing:

- **The next test.** UHR states: *"Nästa prov i samhällskunskap planeras att genomföras under perioden april-maj 2027."* The next civics test is planned for April–May 2027. The exact date and location have not been announced, and you would have to register again. We cover what is known in [a separate article on the next test](/en/blog/next-citizenship-test-april-may-2027/).
- **Grades instead of the test.** Migrationsverket accepts a pass grade in *samhällskunskap* (social studies) or basic social-science subjects from year 9 of compulsory school, upper secondary school or folkhögskola at upper-secondary level, or municipal adult education (komvux). If you have one, you may not need the test at all. Migrationsverket decides whether your grades are enough.

## A pass is not citizenship

The test covers one requirement: basic knowledge of Swedish society. UHR's announcement ends by pointing to the agency that decides the rest:

> *"Resultaten överförs till Migrationsverket som ansvarar för den fortsatta handläggningen av medborgarskapsärenden."*

The results are transferred to Migrationsverket, which is responsible for continuing to process citizenship cases. A pass removes one hurdle; the other requirements in the[2026 citizenship rules](/en/blog/whats-new-2026/), including the residence, self-support, conduct and Swedish-language requirements, are still assessed in your case.

## What is known on 24 October 2026

- **875 people** took the first civics test on 15 August 2026.
- **About 80 percent passed.** UHR does not publish an exact number.
- **The pass mark was 28 of 40 points.** 20 of the 60 questions were trial questions and did not count.
- The threshold was **proposed by the University of Gothenburg and approved by UHR**.
- **Results are in your UHR account** and have been sent to Migrationsverket automatically.
- If you failed, you **may** get another chance. Ask Migrationsverket what applies to you.

## Preparing for the next test

The next sitting is planned for spring 2027. The test is in Swedish, on paper, with multiple-choice questions where one answer is correct. The head count of roughly 700 is our own calculation from UHR's rounded percentage.
